The Disease Surveillance Program goal when receiving a case is to provide education and consultation regarding prevention and control measures to cases and known contacts. DSP recommends to follow provider recommendation, will identify sexual contacts, confidentially notify partners, and offer treatment to case and partners. DSP counsels cases on abstaining from all sexual activity for at least 7 days after treatment is completed to prevent reinfection.
